Pinduoduo launches “Duo Duo Wallet” to lock-in its 7 million users… is this the next Alipay or WeChat Pay?

With the launch of their new payment system “Duo Duo Wallet,” it’s clear that Pinduoduo is trying to keep up with the big boys. While it’s a lofty goal, you can’t blame them for trying.

What’s their objective?

It’s simple… a built in wallet feature allows them to combine “traffic” and “payment” in an attempt to control the entire purchase journey of their customers and lock in their loyalty to the platform.

But, what are people saying about it?

Early feedback is that Duo Duo Wallet is far too basic. If they want to compete with Alipay and WeChat Pay they’ll need to up their game and add more functionality.

Don’t count it out yet though…

According to PDD, users will be able to get random discounts or cashback, up to 100 RMB, and other exclusive benefits by using Duo Duo Wallet.
